
The third day of play in the 5th Abierto Argentino Femenino, at Pilar featured convincing victories from Thai Polo Nearside, El Overo Z7 UAE, La Dolfina BP and La Ensenada Fravega. In the opening match to determine seeding in the final, Zone A’s Thai Polo Nearside defeated El Silencio Breva Farms 12-6, as El Overo Z7 UAE became the first team to advance into the final with a dominant 11-4 win over La Aguada Rioplatense. In Zone B competition, La Dolfina BP also advanced to the final adding another strong 8-4 victory to their record, while La Ensenada Fravega topped Magual Ladiespolo.ie 13-3.
Thai Polo Nearside and El Silencio Brava Farms kicked off Day 3 of competition with El Silencio Brava Farms’ Sofía Lorenzo scoring from the field in a closely contested first half. Matching each other in stride, Lorenzo’s fourth goal of the opening half proved to be the difference as El Silencio took a narrow 5-4 lead into the break. Shutting down El Silencio Breva Farm in the fourth, Thai Polo Nearside began their comeback, combining for six goals in the fifth and sixth chukkers with two goals each from Sol López Llames, Rebecca Walters and Camila Rossi. Despite El Silencio Brava Farms’ Lorenzo finishing the day with four goals, the patient and evenly distributed offensive attack from Thai Polo Nearside saw them finish with a strong 12-6 victory.
Looking to repeat their Abierto Argentino Femenino for the third consecutive year, El Overo Z7 UAE advanced to the finals in a convincing 11-4 victory over La Aguada Rioplatense. Initially a close match,a two goal effort from Mía Novillo Astrada saw La Aguada Rioplatense enter the half trailing narrowly 2-4. El Overo Z7 UAE emerged from halftime unwilling to let La Aguada Rioplatense back into the game, scoring three unanswered goals, including one each from Clara Cassino and Lía Salvo. Shooting 80% from the field, Cassino joined Salvo with four goals each on the day. Continuing to apply pressure in the sixth chukka, El Overo Z7 UAE would score another three, including two from Hazel Jackson to take their offensive success and confidence into the final.
La Dolfina BP successfully booked their place in the final, doubling La Irenita Libra Seguros 8-4. Taking control of match from the onset, La Dolfina BP’s Candelaria Fernández Araujo and Mia Cambiaso combined for seven goals, including an impressive run of four unanswered goals in third and fourth chukkas, with Cambiaso finding her stride from the field, as Fernández Araujo hit two penalty conversions, followed by another from the field. La Dolfina BP’s strong defense shone throughout as they managed to hold La Irenita Libra Seguros to only one goal in the first, second, third and fourth chukkas of play.
Ending Day 3 of competition, La Ensenada Fravega took a commanding early lead over Magual Ladiespolo.ie, as La Ensenada Fravega’s Elena Venot combined for four goals over the first two chukkas. As Magual Ladiespolo.ie struggled to find any offensive momentum, La Ensenada Fravega continued their onslaught in the second half, adding an additional three goals in the fifth from the trio of Venot, Luisa del Carril and Clara Martínez Ferrario. Venot would lead her team in goals scored and ended the day with a total of six, including two successful penalty conversions as La Ensenanza Fravega finished 13-3 victors.
