Continuing action in the USPA Gold Cup at the National Polo Center- Wellington (NPC), Aspen (Nicolas ‘Nico’ Saenz, Francisco ‘Pancho’ Bensadon, Rufino Bensadon, Stewart Armstrong) went head-to-head against Pilot (Curtis Pilot, Matias ‘Colo’ Gonzalez, Matias Torres Zavaleta, Facundo Pieres) in a thrilling match-up that went down to the final horn.
Trading goals to begin the high scoring first half, the Bensadon’s struck in the second for Aspen, as Pieres and Gonzalez combined for three to give Pilot a narrow one goal advantage. Turning the tables for a three-goal run of their own, Aspen’s Rufino Bensadon went 2 for 2 at the line while adding a field goal to tie the match 7-all at the horn. Once again matching each other stride-for-stride in the fourth and fifth chukkers, Pilot’s leading scorer Pieres found his fifth, as Rufino Bensadon struck for his seventh. Each hoping to carry their team across the finish line, the two went back-and-forth in the chukker with Bensadon breaking the stalemate to deliver Aspen a crucial 12-11 victory.
