BTA met ML Bar Ranch on October 8, in the Carlton & Keleen Beal Cup at Houston Polo Club with ML Bar Ranch 10-9 victors. After six closely contested chukkers, BTA would need two shot attempts in an overtime shootout to claim the win.
BTA would strike first in the opening chukker with goals from Steve Kreuger and Nicolai Galindo. Cody Ellis added ML Bar Ranch’s first goal of the day, with Kreuger contributing a third to give BTA an early two goal lead. ML Bar Ranch would take the advantage in the second chukker as Drew Lupow and Joe Wayne Barry would each post a goal as ML Bar Ranch would hold BTA to only one goal from Kreuger. Opening the third Kreuger continued to score on two successful penalty conversions with KC Kreuger contributing a third goal from the field. Cody Ellis answered late in the chukker, as ML Bar Ranch took a 4-7 deficit into the half.
Emerging from the half, ML Bar Ranch’s Ellis and Abby Benton each added a goal in the fourth while Barry and Ellis would follow suit in the fifth chukker. Strong defensive play for ML Bar Ranch would keep BTA off the scoreboard in both chukkers to take a lead for the first time in the match. Ellis knocked in the first goal of the sixth, however foul trouble for ML Bar Ranch opened the door for BTA’s Steve Kreuger’s two penalty goals leading to a 9-9 tie at the end of regulation. Kreuger missed his first shootout attempt for BTA with Luplow’s shot for ML Bar Ranch also going wide of the goal. Kreuger’s second shot was successful and BTA emerged with the 10-9 overtime victory.
