In October each year, the NSPCC run a Parents in Sport Week campaign. The campaign aims to encourage parents to understand their role in their child’s sport.
In Polo, it is important we work to ensure the game is safe. Everyone has a role to play when it comes to the safety of children and young people. As a coach, take time to reflect on your coaching practice. Is your coaching environment positive, inclusive and does it allow children to thrive?
This year, the NSPCC has created new resources which will help parents be aware of the bigger safeguarding picture in sport. As a coach, please feel free to promote these resources to your club or the parents you work with:
- New animation: There is a new animation for parents on what abuse might look like in sport and how to get help: https://thecpsu.org.uk/resource-library/videos/speaking-out-in-sport/.
- Parents’ hub: There is a new look parents’ hub on the CPSU website which can be used as a one-stop shop for safeguarding information (https://thecpsu.org.uk/parents/)
- E-learning course: A short interactive e-learning course is now available for parents to help keep children safe (https://thecpsu.org.uk/parents/keeping-your-child-safe-in-sport/)
- Social media: Spread the word about Parents in Sport Week via social media #ParentsinSportWeek
It is also important to ensure your safeguarding certificate is up to date. If your certificate is due to expire, please contact us to understand when the next virtual safeguarding workshops are available.
