Italy Uses Strong Second Half to Defeat Austria in FIP European Championships

The second game of the FIP European Championships at Santa Maria Polo Club featured Italy against Austria with the Italians overwhelming their opponents in the second half to complete a 7-5 victory.

Tied at the end of the first half, scoring chances were difficult to come by as both teams stood tall defensively. After the halftime break, Italy reorganized to control possession and outshoot Austria 10-1 over the final two chukkas, helping them separate themselves on the scoreboard. Showcasing a balanced attack, all four players added one goal from the field with Francisco Macloughlin adding three penalty conversions to lead Italy with four goals. Despite the best efforts of the Austrian’s in the final chukka, the third chukka ultimately sealed their fate as Italy built a large enough lead to hang on and capture the 7-5 victory in their opening match of the tournament.
