La Irenita and La Hache met in a closely-contested match at San Isidro Polo Club in the Jockey Club Open. Starting strong La Irentia took the lead early with a high number of shots on goal but were unable to match their offensive production in the second half, as La Hache propelled themselves to a 9-7 comeback victory.
La Irentia’s Sapo Caset opened the scoring in the first and posted the only goal of the chukka. La Hache responded in the second with two penalty goals from Gonzalo Pieres Jr. and an additional field goal from Hilario Ulloa. Sapo Caset dominated the third chukka scoring a total of four goals to help take La Irentia into halftime with a 4-5 advantage. Gonzalo Pieres Jr. emerged strong from the half and was quick to get La Hache on the board first in the fourth and erase the one goal deficit. La Hache’s tight defensive play was exemplified in the fifth and sixth chukkas as they successfully limited La Irentia to only one goal, while another two goals from Hilario Ulloa helped boost La Hache to the 9-7 win.
