Following a loss to La Hache, La Irentia were seeking their first win of the Jockey Club Open against BP Polo at San Isidro Polo Club. With both teams evenly matched, it would come down to the last chukka and strong defensive play that allowed La Irentia to emerge victorious 7-5 in a hard fought, low scoring match.
From the beginning of the first chukka goals were hard to come by with BP Polo’s Adolfo Cambiaso and La Irentia’s Sapo Caset scoring one goal each from the field. This continued in the second and third chukkas as each team exchanged goals to a 3-3 tie at halftime. Emerging in the fourth was Francisco Elizalde, posting the only goal of the chukka for BP Polo, as they managed to keep La Irenita off the scoreboard. The momentum would shift in the fifth with Matias Mac Donough Jr. and Sapo Caset each scoring for La Irentia, effectively shutting down BP Polo’s offence to take a 5-4 lead. In the final chukka both La Irenita’s Sapo Caset and Aldolfo Cambiaso were able to convert on penalties shots, however, it would be the goal from Pablo Mac Donough that would be the difference needed to propel La Irentia to a 7-5 victory.
