ML Bar Ranch and Horsgate Tonkawa faced off on Saturday, October 26 in the finals of the H. Ben Taub Memorial at Houston Polo Club. Igniting their offense and leading from the beginning, ML Bar Ranch would finish the tournament undefeated and raise the H. Ben Taub Memorial trophy as 11-8 victors.
Horsegate/Tonkawa’s Shane Rice opened up the scoring with the first goal of the day from the field. Joe Wayne Barry would respond with a goal for ML Bar Ranch and would continue the scoring in the second with another goal from Barry and a penalty goal from Abby Benton. Shane Rice answered in the third with two successful penalty conversions in the third chukker for Horsegate/Tonkawa, however, further contributions from Joe Wayne Barry and Drew Luplow would take ML Bar Ranch into the half with a 6-3 advantage. Drew Luplow would score the only goal of the fourth chukker for ML Bar Ranch, as they managed to keep Horsegate/Tonkawa off the scoreboard. Lance Stefanakis would score for Horsegate/Tonkawa in the fifth and despite scoring an additional three goals in the sixth chukker, ML Bar Ranch would match their scoring as three more combined goals from Joe Wayne Barry and Drew Lupow would seal the championship victory 11-8.
