When awarded a penalty in polo, a free hit towards the goal is set by the umpires depending on the foul committed. Any player on the team awarded the free hit may elect to take the attempt. In the case of a Penalty 5, a free hit is awarded at the spot where the foul occurred and will be positioned by the umpires at least 4-yards from the boards or sidelines.
