UK Player insight Antonio Heguy

Another player to watch ahead of the Argentine season is Antonio Heguy. Son of polo legend, Pepe Heguy, Antonio had an incredible season in the UK playing for Dubai. Winners of the Gold Cup at Cowdray, Antonio Heguy was in the spotlight this year and did not disappoint, making him an exciting prospect for the Argentine high goal triple crown.

As expected we witnessed him excel in attack through 30 field goals across 12 games with a 60% shooting accuracy. A high number of shots on goals and the fact that he is credited with 8 throw in wins speaks of his ability to not only gain possession but to create scoring opportunities. However, playing alongside the undeniable attacking force that is Camilo Castagnola, we also saw him take on a more defensive role than in the past. He leaned into the pivotal 3 position, switching from attack to space creator to defense and putting to use his impressive defensive tail backhand which could often be seen turning the direction and dynamic of play.

He is a powerful rider which can be seen in his defensive ride off and his ability to maintain possession under defensive pressure. He retains control of the ball despite heavy ride offs and is able to use his horse well to support his ball handling. He is also a clever tactician, drawing in defenders before either accelerating past with the ball or taking the man and leaving the ball for supporting teammates, playing well as part of a team as well as individual plays.

He excels in areas including:
