Matias Torres Zavaleta Player Insight

As he teams up with youngest Pieres brother Nico and exciting up and coming players Beltran Lauhle and Lorenzo Chavanne to play the Argentine Open having qualified with team La Zeta Kazak through winning the Classification Tournament, we take a look at Matias Torres Zavaleta's season in the US.

Torres Zavaleta is a familiar face on the US high goal scene this year playing for team Tamera alongside Diego Cavanagh in the Gauntlet of Polo triple tournament series. A strong playmaker, he wears the number 3 shirt, making the most of his ability to switch between defence and attack quickly and effectively. With 39 goals in 14 games including 2 field goals from outside of the 60 yard line and 10 penalties (out of 13 attempts with an accuracy success rate of 76.9%) he makes his mark on the scoreboard.

He is an effective number 3, able to hold his ground in defence and gain possession as well as switching it up on attacking plays, running the ball solo to gain ground or sending powerful lofted passes to teammates up front. He is credited with an impressive 64 throw ins as he reads the melees well, hanging back and guarding his space to quickly jump onto loose balls or get interceptions that can make the difference between positive and negative first plays for his team. A long range and accurate backhand makes him a reliable back and a useful asset especially when combined with two powerful forward running teammates as he is this Argentine season.

He excels in areas including:
