Seventeen-year-old polo sensation Poroto Cambiaso is quickly following the remarkable trajectory of his legendary father, Adolfo Cambiaso. Recently capturing the Argentine Open, Cambiaso has become the youngest player in the sport to hold a 10-goal rating in Argentina and a 9-goal rating in America. Currently competing in the high-goal season in Wellington, Florida, this year marks the first that Cambiaso is competing in the prestigious Gauntlet of Polo without his father as a teammate. Foraging his own path, Cambiaso’s high-scoring capabilities have been on full display throughout the first two legs of the Gauntlet, leading Scone with forty-six goals. Currently ranked 5th in total goals in the Gauntlet and averaging 8.3 shots per game, Cambiaso’s impressive multifaceted approach includes a fifty-five percent shooting percentage from in the field and seventy percent shooting percentage at the line.
Playing in the number three position, Cambiaso is currently ranked 3rd in throw-ins won totaling forty, demonstrating his ability to consistently remain in the forefront of the action and initiate play. Willing to facilitate scoring for his teammates, Cambiaso leads the Gauntlet with twenty-two assists, a testament to his horsepower and unselfish play making prowess.
Competing earlier in the South Florida season for Wind Swept in the USPA Junior Open Final, Cambiaso was a standout amongst some of the brightest young talent leading the match with eight goals, including four penalty conversions. Shooting sixty-seven percent in the field and going 4 for 4 at the penalty line, Cambiaso claimed Most Valuable Player, while his mare “Dolfina Cauta” took home Best Playing Pony.
Despite an early exit in the C.V. Whitney Cup, Scone was back-on-top of the podium capturing their second USPA Gold Cup title since 2021. Defeating reigning champions Pilot 8-6, Cambiaso led Scone with four-goals in the final, including converting two of three penalty attempts. Bringing one of the most impressive strings to the 22-goal competition through the La Dolfina and J5 Equestrian organizations, Cambiaso was awarded both Best Playing Pony and Best Playing Pony Argentine for “Cabe Ballerina.” With all the promises of a record-breaking career ahead of him, Cambiaso will now set his sights to the final leg of the Gauntlet- the U.S. Open Polo Championship, where Scone and its young superstar will look to repeat their 2021 victory.
