Achieving success on the polo field requires the ability to quickly and cerebrally identify distance from the ball, your teammates and the defenders.
Here is an example of a player successfully regulating the distance between themselves and the defender resulting in a goal:
- Player anticipates and takes possession of the ball from the teammate's defensive backhand
- Player passes the ball from distance into the middle of the field so the teammate can carry the ball up field, turning defense into a positive attacking play
- Pass receiver moves into space and carries the ball unmarked
- Player taps the ball and scores on an offside forehand half swing
