In the sole matchup of the USPA Gold Cup at the National Polo Center- Wellington (NPC), Saturday’s contest featured Scone (David Paradice, Cody Ellis, Poroto Cambiaso, David ‘Pelon’ Stirling) against Tamera (Alejandro Poma, Pedro ‘Pedrinho’ Zacharias, Diego Cavanagh, Segundo Saravi).
Establishing an early lead, back-back goals from Cambiaso got Scone on the board, as Ellis added his name to the scoresheet to give Scone a 4-1 lead at the break. Managing just one goal from Cavanaugh in the first half, Tamera emerged from the tent with a three-goal fourth chukker from Zacharias and Poma to tie the match 4-all. Deadlocked in the fifth and sixth, Scone managed three goals on four shots, as Tamera found the goal three times on six attempts. Requiring overtime to settle the score, shots from Stirling and Cambiaso each went wide, with Paradice finally hitting the line to deliver Scone the 9-8 victory.
