Side by Side Comparison- Offside Forehand

side by side 1

The offside forehand is the most used swing in polo and is the first ball striking skill learned by new players. It is the shot that can produce the most power and is used for the taking of all penalties due to the power and accuracy a player can generate.

In this side-by-side comparison, we see two of the best players in the world, Facundo Pieres and Adolfo Cambiaso, executing the offside forehand while taking a penalty shot. There are some striking similarities between the two players that include:

  • Drawing the elbow back to initiate the backswing
  • Rotating the shoulders with a straight arm at the top of the backswing
  • Squaring their hips to the target halfway through the downswing
  • Driving through contact with a bent knee to create a strong platform

See below for the side-by-side comparison video of Facundo Pieres and Adolfo Cambiaso executing the offside forehand.
