Skill Sequence - Tomas Panelo - Offside Tail Backhand

Stromotion Thumbnail Tomas Panelo Offside TailThe offside tail backhand is a shot type used to change the direction of the ball (often moving from defense to offense). It is hit behind the horse's tail with angle to help a teammate turn onto the line and maintain possession for their team.

In this example, rising young player Tomas Panelo executes the offside tail backhand effectively. His preparation for the swing begins long before he makes contact with the ball as the video shows there are multiple strides from the horse from when he begins the swing to when he actually makes contact with the ball. It is also important to note where he makes contact with the ball, with it being behind the saddle to allow him to hit it with the required angle behind the horse.

See below for the sequence of Tomas Panelo executing the offside tail backhand.
