As the FIP European Championships continued at Santa Maria Polo Club with host country Spain facing the Netherlands, Spain’s strong start allowed them to take an early lead and maintain an offensive advantage throughout the match, resulting in a 9-4 win.

With both teams winning their previous respective matches, a three goal contribution from Nicolas Riuz Guinazu and another two goals from Roberto Iturrioz in the first chukka allowed Spain to establish early dominance with an impressive 5-0 lead. Netherlands fought back in the second chukka, scoring three goals including two from Robert Watson, but another offensive push and two more goals from Spain left Netherlands' deficit 3-7 at the half. With Spain determined to keep the lead and Netherlands looking to generate goals, the third chukka soon became a defensive stand with both teams ultimately left off the scoreboard. Spain’s Nicolas Ruiz Guinazu was able to break the stalemate in the beginning of the fourth chukka, with a penalty goal that ignited similar success from Roberto Iturrioz who was able to add a goal from the field. Despite their strong defensive second half Netherlands were unable to recover from their slow start and ultimately fell to Spain with a six-goal differential.
