Tamera Defeats Dundas to Claim Spot in Copa Zafiro Final

The first semifinal in the Copa Zafiro pitted host Adolfo Cambiaso and the Dundas team against Tamera. With a persistent second half offense, Tamera raced ahead in the second half to defeat Dundas 7-6 at La Dolfina Polo Club.

Scoring three goals in the opening chukka, Dundas managed just three goals throughout the remainder of the game as Tamera controlled possession to outshoot them 23-14. Held without a goal, Cambiaso exited after the first half with Dundas ahead by one, but it was Tamera that refocused in the second half to race ahead. Three goals from Ziza Mirelles and two from Segundo Saravi highlighted Tamera’s comeback to secure their place in the Copa Zafiro final.

A dominant opening chukka for Dundas was led by Keko Magrini, who contributed one goal and an assist to put Dundas ahead 3-1 after the opening seven minutes. Magrini’s second goal was the only other offense Dundas could produce in the rest of the first half, allowing Tamera to chip away at the deficit and pull within one after field goals from Mirelles and Saravi. Protecting their respective goals, Alejo Taranco and Cambiaso led their defensive strategies to leave the score at 4-3 entering halftime.

Without the services of 10-goaler Cambiaso, Dundas pushed forward in the fourth chukka, doubling their lead to two after consecutive goals from Santos Merlos. The momentum switched in the fifth chukka as a determined Tamera team fought back into the game. Generating seven shots on goal, Tamera found the mark on three of the attempts to take their first lead at 7-6 with one chukka remaining. Both teams found their opportunities over the final seven minutes to either tie the game or extend the lead, yet the defense stood tall resulting in a scoreless sixth chukka and securing the 7-6 victory for Tamera.
