La Hache won against La Ensenada Dietrich by a score of 13-10 in the Tortugas Open at Tortugas Country Club on Sunday.
This looked like the most interesting match-up of the first round with the two 36 goal teams appearing to be evenly matched on paper. La Ensenada started the match very strongly with a 4-0 sweep in the first chukka, Jero del Carril playing a pivotal role, and they continued to dominate the game for the rest of the first half, leading 8-5 at halftime. Their dominance was short-lived, however, as La Hache showed real character as a team in the second half, to completely turn things around. Polito Pieres became more decisive in front of goal and was ably backed-up by his teammates. They outscored their opponents 8-2 in the second half in a dominant display including a 4-0 shut-out of their own in the sixth chukka.
