Getting up and out of the saddle gets you into the athletic position

  • When you stand up, your knees will naturally squeeze the saddle and get you into the athletic stance.

  • The most important thing is to get up and out of the saddle, utilizing your whole body - all your muscles including your legs and your core.

We generate tremendous power in our core by through the twisting motion of our shoulders parallel to the horses tail and ears

  • By taking your arm back, you generate tremendous power in your core by the twisting motion of the shoulders becoming parallel with the horse's head and the horse's tail.
  • Tremendous responsibility is placed on the Team captain to organize the team, captain the team, look after their own horses, make sure they're in fit and strong shape to be able to compete out on the polo field whilst at the same time dedicate time to routine practice.
  • Practice hitting a bucket of balls, a couple of times a week will lead to greater accuracy and longer distance shots.
  • Having a coach, mentor or partner will help optimize your practice time.

 Common Mistakes made by the Advanced Players Include :

  • For beginners, a common mistake is lack of aggression - ending up sitting in the saddle and not able to generate power as they’re not in the athletic standing position
  • Many amateurs might utilize the half swing instead of the full swing
  • Not getting the arm straight back and loading their core full of energy
Break their elbow and not getting the pendulum like action through the swing
